Keep your classes active this autumn without waiting for a PE lesson
Quick Answer
Davies Sports is supporting imoves' Active Autumn initiative to help primary school teachers integrate short, fun, 5-minute movement bursts and brain breaks into the everyday classroom routine. Running from September until October half term, this free programme boosts concentration, improves behaviour, and helps schools achieve daily active movement goals without altering lesson timetables.

Reverting to the classroom can be tricky after children have enjoyed their summer outdoors in the fresh air and sunshine. Refocusing attention levels back into learning takes time and teaching skills to help them adjust.
That’s why Davies Sports is supporting the imoves initiative this autumn to keep children moving in a fun and interactive whilst in the classroom. The best part is that it doesn’t require any major effort from teaching staff!
A FREE primary school initiative
Active Autumn is a FREE initiative running throughout September, right up to October half term, designed to support three classroom needs: getting active, getting focused and being calm. To access, teachers simply need to create a free imoves account to access a collection of videos, short activities and resources that don’t require any changes to the timetable. The aim is to punctuate the day with short, engaging bursts of movement, active learning or calming activities that dovetail into the routine of the day. As all the resources are fully designed, teachers simply press ‘play’ on the activity content and children can easily follow along for the five-minute duration. There are also longer, CPD resources to help support teachers deliver an active classroom.
The benefits of movement in the school day
Taking a brain break can dramatically improve children’s concentration levels in the classroom. Movement can energise them which in turn improves behaviour. Allowing children to let off steam in a controlled and active way helps them settle faster into another learning cycle. Investing in two to three minutes of activity every 90 minutes can buy teachers 15 extra minutes of learning time – a highly valuable return!
Why Davies Sports is supporting primary school movement
Davies Sports has been supporting schools with their PE and sports resources for many years, with the aim of supplying made for education and fit for school use equipment. We often hear the challenges teachers face when trying to deliver a meaningful and diverse programme that meets the PE curriculum. There are different levels of enjoyment, participation, and perception of sport. Finding something for everyone can be difficult. Therefore, free initiatives like this from imoves are good for inclusive participation. They’re short and can help schools meet the criteria of children achieving 60 minutes of movement a day. Anything that keeps children active and happy is a win in our books!
How to join the free Active Autumn programme
Teachers can sign up from 2 September to join the Active Autumn initiative. There will be regular communications to help guide you through the programme. There are Davies Sports prizes to win along the way with the top prize being the Findel Everyday Maths in PE Activity Pack, with runner up prizes of the Findel Everyday Spots and Stripes balls and the Findel Everyday Emotion Face Balls.
